A tangential flow, pressure driven filtration process that separates particles on the basis of their molecular size. Pore diameters of ultrafiltration membranes are in the range of 10 to 200 A (0.001 to 0.02 micron). Solvents and species having a diameter smaller than the pore size of the membrane will pass through the membrane and emerge as ultrafiltrate known as permeate. Rejected species are progressively concentrated in the retained stream. Ultrafiltration membranes are reusable and cleanable with standard chemicals.
INDION series of reverse osmosis are field proven, highly reliable and cost-effective answer to treat a wide range of brackish water. Designed with flexibility, the series utilises state-of-the-art spiral wound reverse osmosis membranes to suit a given application. These systems can remove 90 - 98% of total dissolved salts.
INDION ISR is based on ion exchange resin technology and has manganese dioxide (MnO2) as a catalytic moiety. It works as a catalyst to promote iron oxidation. Basically, iron and oxygen are attracted to manganese dioxide, where INDION ISR enhances the oxidation of dissolved iron and converts the soluble iron (Fe ++) into insoluble ferric (Fe+++), which can be filtered through the media that acts as catalyst in this process and does not get consumed.
The raw water is fed into the fluoride removal unit. The unit houses fluoride selective ion exchange resin which removes the fluoride present in the water. The fluoride is retained on the resin till all the sites are exhausted. After this the system needs to be regenerated with 5% non-ferric polyaluminium chloride solution or hydrated aluminum chloride. After regeneration the unit is rinsed with raw water. The unit again becomes ready for the next service cycle.

Arsenic removal system consists of cylindrical vessel with two media in series. Iron removal unit consists of Indion ISR media (Iron Specific Resin). Arsenic removal unit consists of arsenic selective media.
Water is passed through the upper iron removal unit. The iron removal media (Indion ISR) oxidises dissolved iron into precipitate form and filters it to give iron below 0.3 ppm at the outlet. The media also oxidises arsenic III to V which can be easily adsorbed by arsenic removal media. The filtered water is then passed through the arsenic selective media for complete removal of arsenic. Media is replaced after exhaustion. Treated water from the unit has arsenic concentration within acceptable limits as per IS 10500.

The nitrate removal unit consists of nitrate removal media which is a macroporous strongly basic anion resin which is tailor-made for the removal of nitrate ions from water for potable uses. As the water passes over the resin, nitrate is exchanged by chloride. The resin is regenerated with sodium chloride solution.
Manganese removal filter is designed to remove dissolved manganese and iron from water. INDION MnSR (Manganese Specific Resin) is a media processed to provide catalytic properties. INDION MnSR is an insoluble catalyst, which oxidises dissolved manganese and converts the soluble manganese into the insoluble manganese dioxide, which can be filtered through the media. The backwash is given to the media for removal of precipitated manganese particles. Treated water through media reduces manganese < 0.05 ppm & iron < 0.3 ppm on continuous basis and thus effectively removes dissolved manganese and iron from ground water.
